David Carpenter, M.D.
Dr. Carpenter joined our practice in January 2010 after serving 21 years in the United States Navy. He received his MD degree from Uniformed Services University followed by Pediatrics residency and Neonatology fellowship in the armed forces. His clinical training took place at multiple Army, Navy and Air Force hospitals on the East Coast, as well as Georgetown University Medical Center and INOVA Fairfax. His research has been focused on persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, and he is published in Pediatric Research. During the last eleven years of his Navy career he has cared for critically ill neonates in both military and civilian centers, including Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia Beach General Hospital, INOVA Alexandria and Stafford Hospital Center. His teaching has impacted more than one hundred pediatric residents and many neonatal nurse practitioner students, PA students, medical students and nurses during his time at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. For this and other accomplishments he received the Navy Meritoirious Service Medal in 2009.
Dr. Carpenter is Board-certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, and has privileges at four Bon Secour centers served by Commonwealth Neonatology.
